Intro To Essential Oils - 1

Essential oils are becoming very popular nowadays, be it for enjoyment, health or wellness.  It is highly valued for its aromatic and wellness properties.  But what exactly are they?  Basically essential oils are the highly concentrated extraction of the natural oils in plants.   Getting essential oils from plants is done with a process called distillation, most commonly distillation by steam or water.  These oils are obtained from various parts of the plant including the flowers, leaves, bark, roots, fruit and stems.  For example an entire rose bush might only produce a single drop of essential oil during distillation - what we get is a highly concentrated oil that contain the properties and true essence of the plant it came from.  This includes the smell, but also the plant’s healing properties and other plant characteristics.


The highly potent extract of a plant or herb can be very useful and effective for many purposes.  The most common therapeutic application of essential oils is that of aromatherapy, where healing effects are achieved through the aromas of the essential oils.  Essential oils are believed to have an uplifting effect on the human’s mind; and many essential oils also have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-parasitic properties.

The healing and medicinal properties of essential oil makes it an alternative holistic prescription for overall wellness and health.  Moreover its highly therapeutic properties have been known to treat many ailments from minor colds to diabetes.
